RC is pleased to announce that 100 two volume sets of the Bouguereau Biography and Catalogue Raisonné are being donated to ARC approved ateliers, reference libraries, and museums, so that art students and art lovers around the world will have access to this monumental book.

The book itself is the conclusion of a 30 year effort by a small determined team of 19th Century Art experts. The Catalog Raisonné which was jointly published by the Art Renewal Center® and the Antique Collectors Club, is a two-volume boxed set which illustrates the complete oeuvre of this great master, including information on all of William Bouguereau's 828 known paintings, as well as the entire 600 page biography written by Damien Bartoli, with Fred Ross, ARC Chairman and President of the Bouguereau Committee.

The huge scope of Bouguereau's work was immensely famous and popular in his own time and then was suppressed for nearly a century, resurfacing in 1980 when the Met hung 2 of his works. His popularity has gained momentum steadily ever since, and today he is widely recognized as the most popular and beloved of the Academic artists who preceded Impressionism. His diverse work spans monumental religious and mythical compositions, but most beloved are his deeply touching scenes exploring the depths of human emotion from early childhood through young adulthood. His poetic renderings of the psychology of youth are married to impeccable technical perfection, found in an unparalleled number of original and powerful masterpieces.

Below is a list of all book donations to date, we still have 42 left to go out and are currently compiling a list of Libraries and Museums that are still missing this monumental work:

We very much appreciate being contacted about your donation. We would love to receive the beautiful books that you are offering to us. They will certainly be a welcome addition to our collection, and we probably would not be able to acquire them through purchase due to our limited budget.

Sincerely,
Anita Semtner
Director of the James J Kelly Library, St. Gregory's University

Thank you so much for sending the Georgetown Atelier those absolutely wonderful Bouguereau books. They are a real treasure and a great resource to learn from! There are a couple Bougereau works that we have here in Seattle at the Frye, and it's been great being able to take our class to see those works in person and also have those catalogues to refer to in tandem.

Thanks again,
Tenaya Sims

I am a third year student at Georgetown Atelier in Seattle, WA. Our instructor, Tenaya Sims, brought in the beautiful addition of the Bouguereau Catalog Raisonne that you offered our school. As a student it is not in my means at this time to purchase such a definitive work of one the finest French painters. I have admired his work at Orsay and our local musem, the Frye. However to have all his works available to study, page after page, is a sheer delight.

Thank you for your generous gift to our atelier library. I am so very appreciative of the dedication, long hours and effort it took to bring this book to print.

Sincerely,
Courtney Estevenin

Thank you so much for your letter and the books. Gage was on vacation and it took me longer than expected to receive the package.

The books were a wonderful surprise. We are very grateful to have received them. They are treasures for our school. I also appreciate the article by David Stork; it's brilliant. It will be required reading for my incoming students.

My deepest thank you for the beautiful books. Art Renewal is doing great work.

With my Best Wishes,

We received a nice "little" surprise here at the studio today, a surprise weighing in at about thirty pounds. Our own copy of the Bouguereau catalogue! This is an absolutely astounding resource of Bouguereau, and my students and I will treasure it forever.

Best,

THE BOUGUEREAU BOOK!!!! YOU'RE KIDDING ME!!! OMG!!!! I've been looking at it on the website wishing I had enough money to get that! I'm one of the ones that has always lamented the fact that there were no decent books on Bouguereau. WOW!!!
Thank you so much! I'm shocked... but so happy! Wow!!

Best Regards,

Thank you for this generous gift of books. The students and staff will enjoy this chance to study and view these tremendous volumes of knowledge. I know that we will use them as reference from our Master Copy exercises to Final Portrait Projects, and everywhere in between.

We are extremely grateful for having been chosen to receive one of the Bouguereau Catalogue Raisonne. I had read about it on your site, but thought it might be far too presumptuous to ask for one, since we are all the way in London. We have indeed just acquired a new space as a student common room, which we have started to fill with important art reference books, and the Bouguereau catalogue would definitely need to be there! In order to fund my own art training, I worked part-time at Thomas Heneage Art Books in St James's for over ten years cataloguing art reference books and so have a huge passion for art monographs and exhibition catalogues.

Dear Fred and ARC,

What a wonderful surprise to receive the Bouguereau Biography and Catalogue Raisonné today! The atelier had been planning to buy it for our library when we could, but financially it kept being postponed. So your gift of these two beautiful books is a real gift to the atelier library and will be poured over by our students for years to come.

Thank you so much,

We have received the volumes at both locations. They are simply splendid. They offer concrete proof of a more civilized age, when the skill of an artist matched his vision. The catalogue raisonné of Bouguereau will give our faculty and students something to aspire to. We are very gratefull for the gift.

Sincerely,
Rob Zeller
